Powered Parachutes
Considered by most as the safest form of flying (you are under a parachute after all) powered parachutes offer a very easy way to enjoy the freedom of flight.  Click on some of the links for the aircraft below and you will find they say it only takes about 1 1/2 hour instruction and off you go.  That, combined with the ability to find a good used powered parachute for $4,000 and up, (backpack style or tricycle, one or two seats) makes this a good alternative to conventional type ultralights.
